The spirit of man

The spirit of man By Ivan Ho  18 Nov 2017     We hear some people talk about ‘out of body’ experiences i.e. the soul/ spirit of man departs from the physical body after a person dies. But where does the spirit of man go? Does it wander around the earth? There are people who talk about their experiences in heaven/ hell when their spirits depart from their bodies for a while and afterwards return to their bodies to tell us their testimonies. Can we believe in these stories? Not all stories are true but some are true testimonies. The bible does mention out of body experiences of believers when their spirits leave their bodies to be present with the Lord: So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to...

You shall receive power 4

You shall receive power 4 By Ivan Ho    17 Sept 2017 Myth 2. The Holy Spirit falls on everyone, believers and unbelievers alike, indiscriminately. Some people read Joel’s prophecy and suggest that, in the last days, the Holy Spirit will fall on every human being, whether they are believers of Christ or not, regardless if they are born again or not. And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Joel 2:28‭-‬29 NKJV There is no denying that the Spirit of God can do many supernatural works such as healing the sick, casting demons out of people, including believers and non believers. But in baptism of the Holy Spirit when the Spirit of God falls upon...

You shall receive power 3 By Ivan Ho   27 Aug 2017 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1‭-‬4 NKJV The coming of the Holy Spirit was a fulfilment of what Jesus promised His disciples, that He would send the Holy Spirit to earth as their Helper after the Ascension of Jesus. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. John 16:7 NKJV On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit...

You shall receive power 2 By Ivan Ho    20 Aug 2017   When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Acts 2:1 NKJV This was the first house church meeting after the ascension of Jesus. About 120 disciples of Jesus gathered together in one place at the instruction of the Lord. “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49 NKJV   Set time When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, meaning that the disciples gathered at a set time. The coming of the Holy Spirit as promised by the Father happened at a predetermined time. The prophet Joel had prophesied about the outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh, and Jesus had foretold when the Holy Spirit would come. “for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy...

You shall receive power

You shall receive power By Ivan Ho    14 July 2017 Luke’s account of Jesus The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. Acts 1:1‭-‬3 NKJV The above are the opening statements of the book of Acts written by Luke, a disciple of Paul. Unlike the other gospel writers Matthew, Mark and John, it is widely accepted that Luke had never physically met Jesus, but his account of the Son of God is equally authoritative because most of the apostles and followers of Jesus were still alive to verify the historical facts about Jesus when Luke...

The Father’s decree

The Father’s decree By Ivan Ho     25 June 2016   Fill in the blanks “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not ________ in Your name, _________ in Your name, and done many things in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’   We can fill in the blanks and say we do this and that in the name of Jesus. At the end of the day, God is only interested in one thing: Are we doing the will of the Father? Are we doing our own will or are we doing His will? Who is your Lord? Who is guiding your life? Your instinct, your friend/ clairvoyant/ psychologist/ self help motivator, or the proceeding word of God?   The Father’s decree The Father’s decree is for...
