The story of Lucifer

by Ivan Ho    24 Jan 2021

Last night, while I was sleeping, or rather, lying in bed half asleep, God gave me thoughts about the story of Lucifer, how the once anointed and cherished cherub became Satan. Let his tragic story be a warning for us all.

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
Ezekiel 28:13‭-‬18 KJV

Lucifer was created and anointed to be one of the archangels of God. He was perfect in the beginning until iniquity entered his heart, and pride began to fill his soul.

Abundance of trade

Lucifer wasn’t satisfied with the position he was given by God and started to look at what options are available out there. He left his position of assignment and started to move around outside his jurisdiction to gather followings with other angels. The bible tells us that he sinned due to the multitudes of merchandise (abundance of trading) he was engaged in. What happened was, Lucifer went around recruiting angels to join his network by selling them dreams of a better future.

In today’s terms, Satan is offering some Cash, Cars and Condos and others Position, Power and Promotion in exchange of their souls. Satan uses his power of persuasion to try to pull us away from God’s pre-ordained pathway so we would fall for his plot.

What’s more, the bible says: “By the multitude of thy merchandise, they have filled the midst of thee with violence“. Notice according to Strong’s concordance, the word violence has the following meanings :

violence; by implication wrong; by metonymy unjust gain: – cruel ({-ty}) {damage} {false} {injustice} X {oppressor} {unrighteous} violence ({against} {done}) violent ({dealing}) wrong.

Merchandise is not a sin but multitudes of merchandise that contradict God’s character and outside of His plan is. If our goal of trading with people is to plug them away from God’s plan for their lives, or if our trading is full of unjust gains, injustice, violence, self gains at the expense of damages and loss to others, we are acting like the devil himself. What good is it if you sacrifice your own soul in order to gain the world? We need to examine our hearts in whatever we do, whether our motives are to gain the things the world offers us in exchange of our own soul?

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Mark 8:36 KJV

I am a God

Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord God ; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God.

Ezekiel 28:2 KJV

The prince of Tyre was a type of the devil and his ultimate iniquity was the pride of wanting to rule and reign as God instead of rule and reign with God.

One day, while gathering pace in assembling scores of fallen angels to follow him, Lucifer called an election to decide once and for all who would be the ultimate ruler of the universe. The outcome was that one third of angels voted for Lucifer but he rigged the result anyway and declared himself God.

The ultimate sin of man is none other than wanting to become a god. Instead of being submissive and subservient to Jesus, man wants to decide his own destiny and call shots on his own life as well as dominate the lives of other people. What Satan is doing today is tempting people to be independent from God and become a god himself, just as he did with Eve in the garden of Eden.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Genesis 3:4‭-‬5 KJV

Almost all the false religions today appeal to man with the following doctrine: you are a god, or you can become a god. The ultimate goal of Buddhism, for example, is to attain Nirvana and become a Buddha. The greatest sin of man, instead of worshipping Jesus the King of Kings and Lord of Lords,  is wanting to worship self, to put self as the centre of the world.

The fall of Lucifer

Because of his pride in wanting to ascend above the Most High, not only was Lucifer cast out of heaven, Isaiah prophesied that Satan would be brought down to the lowest pit of hell.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Isaiah 14:132-‬15 KJV

Notice how prophet Isaiah used past tense to describe how Lucifer was driven out of the third heavens, how he weakened the nations on earth which is what the devil is doing today. In verse 15, however,  Isaiah changed to future tense to prophesy how satan will be cast down to the pit of hell upon the soon return of Christ.

Jesus is Lord

Jesus the Son of God came as a Man so that man can become sons of God.

You may say : “I am my own god” which is exactly what Lucifer was saying to himself. Jesus did not come to make us gods but to make us sons of God. He is calling men and women everywhere to repent, to turn away from the sin of self determination and self government, and to turn to Him as the only God of the universe who alone deserves our worship and to whom we must bow and let Him govern our lives.

Repentance is not just asking Jesus to forgive our sins but also to accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour!
