Let your yes be yes

“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Matthew 5:33-37 NKJV

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.

James 5:12 NKJV

For God, “Yes” is “Yes”, “No” is “No”, full stop!

Being at a cross road, or dilemma, is not God’s will for our life. When God says something to an individual, He gives him clear direction and His word removes all muddy situations. The devil, on the other hand, wants to drag us into the mud and put doubt in our mind: “Did God say…?” (Genesis 3:1).

When a person is neither saying yes, nor saying no, he is undecided. He doesn’t know what God is saying in his situation, or having heard from God, he is doubting God‘s word. One day you hear him say yes, the next day, in a different situation or mental state, he says no. That is a dangerous place to be in when doors are left open for demonic suggestions. In Him, there are no maybes, no guess works, no uncertainties, no double mindedness, no “Yes but”… All these grey areas, according to Jesus, belong to the devil!
