Know who is speaking to you

by Ivan Ho 17 May 2020

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
John 4:7‭-‬14

Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well: “If you knew who it is that’s speaking to you, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water“. You see, if we knew who it is that’s speaking to us, a lot of our struggles in life would have come to an end!

Lot of times, our struggles aren’t due to the fact that God isn’t speaking to us, but more to do with us failing to recognize that God Himself is indeed speaking. For most of her conversation with Jesus, the Samaritan woman was interacting with Him on the natural plain. Jesus came to earth as a human and interacted with man as a human and unfortunately, many people only saw Him as a good man, or a prophet from God.

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
John 4:19

After further conversation with our Lord, her perception of Jesus has upgraded from an ordinary Jewish man to one of the prophets God sent. However, her perception was still not accurate.

Thank God, the woman at the well did not dismiss Jesus and walk away when she could not get it in her spirit what Jesus was saying. She stayed and continued to dialogue with Jesus.

Few days ago, God spoke to me in a dream which, when I woke up, I did not immediately understand what God was saying. In fact, I wasn’t sure if God was speaking or my own imagination? I was thinking: “Is it God or is it me..?”  I could have dismissed it and forgotten about it altogether and thereby missed out on what God is saying that will have far reaching impact not only in my own life but also those whom God is speaking through the dream. Thank God, I did not rubbish the dream and continue to dialogue with the Holy Spirit about it, and sure enough, He gave me the interpretation the following day.

As mentioned, lots of our recycling problems and struggles in life are due to us not recognizing who is speaking to us. We don’t know when man is speaking, when the devil is speaking, and most of all, when God is speaking! We wonder if God would ever speak to us, and when he does, we don’t even recognize that God is speaking! And because we fail to recognize that God is speaking, we are too quick to walk away from His voice, and in so doing, our God given destiny.

If God spoke to you the first time, and you received the revelation, He doesn’t have to speak to you the same thing over and over and over again. Until you finally get what God is saying, you would all the while try to look for answers elsewhere. On the contrary, if you are settled in your heart that the Son of God is speaking, you will start to walk in your destiny.

The problem with a lot of people is that they try to figure God out with their natural minds and when they can’t understand Him with their intellect, they dismiss God. We can’t work out things in the spirit realm with our natural minds. God has to reveal  things to us in our spirit man. Don’t dismiss God and walk away from your destiny when you fail to understand what God is saying. Keep seeking, keep knocking, keep asking until you receive the revelation.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7‭-‬8

God is not playing hide and seek, nor playing hard to get, He just wants you to keep seeking Him.

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He. ”

John 4:25‭-‬26

Thank God that the woman did not walk away from Jesus and missed her destiny. Even though it took a while for her spirit and mind to catch up with what Jesus was saying, in the end she finally received the revelation that Jesus was the Messiah that the Jews was waiting for, that Jesus was the Man who would give her permanent answers to life.

The trouble with lot of us is that, when God speaks, we think it’s man speaking.

Know that, Jesus the Son of God, is speaking to you right now. If you know that God is speaking to you through His Son Jesus, you will ask Him for Eternal Life and He will give it to you!
