Where Jesus went after His death 1

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

1 Peter 3:18-20 KJV

Some people erroneously teach that, after Jesus died on the cross, he went to hell to preach to the spirits being bound there. The reason I say it is erroneous is because, if we read the above scriptures in context, the word of God talks about 8 souls in the ark being saved from judgement ie Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives.

Those who have gone to hell were already condemned beyond salvation. If we preach to someone, it is with the hope that he (or she) will repent and turn to accept Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. There is no point preaching to anyone after they died and being condemned to hell. There is no salvation in hell (contrary to the false Catholic doctrine of purgotry). It is insane to think that Jesus went to preach to the souls or demons in hell. Instead, Jesus went to paradise to preach to the OT saints who had faith in God and passed away before Jesus died on the cross, the souls who were confined in a temporary place of comfort, as if they were in the ark awaiting salvation.

Yesterday I learnt about the news of a brave father who jumped to save his twin daughters in a pram which fell down from the train station platform in Sydney onto a railway track. Sadly, although he managed to save one of his twin daughters, he himself was hit by the train and died.

That is what the love of our heavenly Father did, that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross, so that we might be saved from eternal condemnation in hell, if we have Jesus in our lives.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

‭John 3:16-18 NKJV

There is no salvation for those who were already condemned in hell. The time to repent and turn to Jesus is now while we are still alive. Like the father in Sydney who jumped down the railway track to save his daughters, no one can predict or plan for when he would depart from the present life on earth.

NOW is the day of salvation, now is the time to repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
