Unmasking the spirit of Jezebel

Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.
Few things we can learn from the above warnings about the Jezebel spirit. Mind you, they are words directly from the mouth of our Lord Jesus. We ignore His warnings at our own peril.
1. Jezebel calls herself a prophetess
Notice Jesus does not use the word “prophet” but instead He says “that woman Jezebel who calls herself prophetess”, which means that the spirit of Jezebel operates primarily through women although men can also be seduced by the same spirit. Jezebel calls herself prophetess so she is a self appointed prophetess who operates in words of prophecies, not from God but from demonic spirits. She has the power to influence other people’s future through the false prophecies she gives.
As a counterfeit prophetess, she has a cutting edge in her “prophetic gifts” by drawing knowledge about individuals from the demonic realm ie familiar spirits. When the Spirit of God departed from Saul, he began to consult mediums to find out about his future and was deceived by demonic spirits. We must discern what kind of spirit the person who prophesies is operating from, whether or not it is of God.
The bible tells us that Jezebel loved the prophetic ie counterfeit prophets of Baal and prophets of Asherah. We were told that as many as 850 false prophets ate at the table of Jezebel. (1 Kings 18:19 NKJV)
Jezebel fed and surrounded herself with false prophets whom she used to counteract Elijah the true prophet of God. Elijah may be outnumbered but he had God on his side. If we cannot discern truth from counterfeits we could easily be deceived by false prophets who derive their powers from the spirit of Jezebel.
2. Jezebel usurps authority and borrows powers from the evil king
Just like Queen Jezebel aligned herself with king Ahab of Israel in order to use the authority of her husband to implement her wicked schemes, people who operate in the spirit of Jezebel like to align themselves with people in positions of powers such as national leaders, CEO of companies but more dangerously pastors and key leaders in churches. Imagine the man of the house isn’t able to function as God intends due to the influence of the spirit of Jezebel, that house will become dysfunctional. The spirit of Jezebel is assigned to cause divisions in churches, destroy marriages and weaken nations.
We learn from the bible that Jezebel, daughter of the king of idol worshipping Sidonians, was married to Ahab, the most evil king of Israel. They were matrimony made in hell, an unholy alliance. Being the daughter of a king, she was already born in a highly privileged position but marrying Ahab gave her even more powers and controls. But being queen wasn’t enough for Jezebel, she basically wanted to be king by controlling and manipulating her husband Ahab, pulling strings behind the scenes. She basically desired to sit upon the throne herself. What did that attitude reminds us of? That’s right, Satan himself!
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

We need to know that the spirit of Jezebel has no power on her own. She needs to usurp authority by aligning herself with someone at the top of the power pyramid and what’s more, from her high position of power, call shots on everyone else under her. This spirit of pride was what made Lucifer fall.
The spirit of Jezebel appeals to people wanting to climb up the hierarchy of powers and controls, whether it be in business, politics or religious hierarchical structures. They want to be their own boss so they don’t need to get permissions from anyone to do whatever their heart desire.
This spirit is totally opposite to the teachings of Jesus.
And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

3. Jezebel targets servants of Jesus
Jesus warns us about Jezebel’s mission to teach and seduce “My servants”, not just anyone in the world who have no relationship with Christ. Believe it or not, her primary target is God’s servants! The sad thing is: many who are called by God are either being attacked by or under the influence of the spirit of Jezebel without them being aware of it. Many of God’s servants have been led astray, many have their identity and destiny in Christ attacked by this satanic spirit.
During the days of king Ahab, Jezebel targeted Elijah who was the prophet of God and wanted to kill him. The spirit of Jezebel hates true prophets of God because they speak the truth. When the prophets speak the word of God, the false prophetess Jezebel would give counterfeit prophetic words in order to mislead God’s servants and divert them away from God’s words. Jezebel works through close relationships and God’s people must discern the demonic source of her seducing words and cut ties from her influences.
